Leaving a Powerful Legacy

Rabbi Philip Bregman would sometimes notice a woman attending Shabbat services at Temple Sholom in Vancouver. Doris Ekdahl was a quiet, spiritual seeker, who didn’t have didn’t have many social connections within the congregation. She came to grow and to learn. Over the years, Doris came to trust Rabbi Bregman. It was only after Doris’ death that Rabbi Bregman learned that she wanted him and another rabbi to choose four organizations to receive equal portions of her bequest of $1.6 million. She wanted the gifts to be donated to Israeli organizations that make a difference in people’s lives. Beit Halochem Canada was one of the recipients. Her generosity will help rehabilitate, rebuild and enhance the lives of over 51,000 Israeli-disabled veterans and their families. We are enormously honoured and grateful to Doris Ekdahl and Rabbi Bregman to have been selected as beneficiaries for her generosity.
