Beit Halochem Rower Qualifies for 2016 Rio Paralympics
On August 9, 2015, Moran Samuel secured her place at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, advancing to the final of the arms-shoulders single scull 1,000-metre competition at the World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France. Samuel, who trains in Italy and at the Daniel Rowing Center in Tel Aviv, registered a time of 5:20:52 minutes to win her semifinal heat.
“I took the lead from the start and that gave me confidence,” said Samuel. “I could afford to save energy for the final, and I’m very excited because my family was in the crowd and because I now qualify to participate in the 2016 Rio Paralympic games.”
Itai Erenlib Wins Polish Wheelchair Tennis Championship
On July 6, 2015, Paralympic wheelchair tennis player Itai Erenlib beat his Italian opponent to win the singles championship. With partner Patrick Ben Oliel, he also won the doubles against Italian and British opponents. Itai hopes to compete in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.
Wheelchair Dancers Return with World Cup Medals
Israel sent the largest delegation ever to the 2015 IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport World Cup in St. Petersburg; 130 dancers from 20 countries competed in September.
Israel’s delegation had eight couples who competed in different classifications, including Latin, Free Style, Show Dance, Duo Class (both dancers are wheelchair users), Combi (only one of the partners is a wheelchair user), Solo Men, and Solo Women. Accompanying them was choreographer Yelena Feitliher.
Our team from Israel all came home with medals. Mazal tov to everyone!
